My Trans Siberian Trip

My Trans Siberian Trip

Day 8/SUNDAY 19th DECEMBER 2009

I've just crossed the longest tunnel that goes under the river Amur, its length is of 2km and is between Irkutsk and Vladivostok. It was built in 1937 to 1942. I have finally arrived at Vladivostok, the last stop of my wonderful trip. I think I will miss Russia a lot: its friendly and warm people, its culture and freezing tempratures as well as it's evergreen landscape and vegetation. Siberia's nature is so untouched and beauiful. I will also miss seeing so many wild animals (a rare thing in Europe). I know though, that I will be happy eating my own familiar food as i am getting sick of fish and patatoes. It was such a great experience, meeting so many different people and talking with them. There was always something to do, look out the window and contemplate the ever-changing landscape, take a nap with the and regular sound of the wheels on the railway or read a book you had always wanted to read and had put aside because you lacked the time to read it. I have realised that sharing was very important upon the Great Siberian Way; sharing your food, your maps, your books, interesting information and I guess that was what the trip was all about. Russia is a beautiful country that I knew little of. The landcsapes of so diverse, going from a coniferous forests, to an artic deserts to semi-desertic steppes. The land use is also very different from the European's. I encourage everyone to do this adventure trip because Russia is full of cultural and historical treasures. I am heading by taxi to the Vladivostok Internationnal Airport and boarding in an hour (4p.m) going back to France (where is it 9a.m)
Goodbye
